Adding Products
After selecting “Products” from the top menu will have only the option to create a new product. Click this link and you will be taken into the product editor.Products are tiered within the website in the order Manufacturer > Range > Type so the first thing you may wish to administer is each of these fields. Click on “Create New” alongside the Manufacturer field.
You will now see that the text within the text field for both Manufacturer and Range has changed to “New Manufacturer” and “New Range” respectively. Insert your data into these fields. These will be created as soon as you apply the changes after completing the other product information on this page.
You can replicate the above process with Product Type.
The top row shows the name of the product, Item SKU (unique product code) and the price in GBP.
You can edit any of the fields as normal. If you replicate a product name that already exists in the database this field will turn red indicating that you need an alternative name.
You can upload images for your product using the browse button to browse your local PC. We advise that only JPEGS are uploaded with the file extension .jpg (lowercase) for products and that they are slightly larger in dimensions than the images that will be displayed on your website. Your website will resize any images dynamically to the correct size whilst optimising the file for download times. There is no limit to the number of images you can upload for your product, although you need to be aware of how many images your public website will display potentially.
You can specify multiple product colours or sizes for your product by adding in new colour / size options using the bottom text field in each section and then clicking on the “Add” button. Once you have added any parameters into these fields they will automatically be saved into your database so that they can be selected for any further products that you may add.
The top drop down menu will display any previously saved colour or size parameters. To select one of these simply highlight one from the menu and click “Add” alongside your selection.
Lastly you will want to add some descriptive text to your product. Use the editor to create some text for this using the icons you will have already used when editing article content. Your product title will more than lkely display on your public website as a Heading 1 tag (a very important parameter in the webpages source code) so you will not need to include a H1 tag within the product description. Please stick to H2, H3 and Paragraph text for all text here. To keep the text relevant and interesting you could try bullet points for product features or even insert a table for a products specification.
