Content Management System
It is essential for any business with a web presence today to keep the content on their website fresh and up-to date. This is not only to keep the visitors informed of your latest news and information (as well as letting them know you are still trading), but also to encourage the search engines and robots to regularly return to your website to index new content.Over the past 12 months or so we have been developing our own content management system that allows our clients to take full control over their websites content. Whilst we are able to offer our clients monthly maintenance agreements to make regular updates to their websites content, it is not always as cost effective or as instantaneous as having their own cms would be.
The content management system allows clients to add, edit and delete page content from their website. There is also the ability to 'hide' page content from the website, which may be useful in the case of seasonal information or incomplete content which needs further amendments before being set 'live' on the public website.
There are various modules within the cms that allow the administrator to perform various tasks. These are as follows:-
Articles – This module allows full control over standard page content. This would allow the adminstrator to create new pages, edit existing pages, delete pages, choose a parent page for the page content i.e. News Archive > February 2007 > Your New Page Content and lastly 'hide' and make 'live' any of the created web pages. The article editor allows the administrator to add text to the web page in the form of H and P tags (essential for effective search engine marketing), tabular content and also upload images to an image library to insert into the web page. The article editor is similar to Microsoft Word in appearance and also has various text formatting options such as bullet points, bold, italic, underline, center, left align, right align and image and table property options to format these elements. Because of the article modules ability to infinitely tier the page content there are no restrictions on how much content can be added to your public website. If a News section is overflowing with article content then further tiers can be introduced to sub categorise it.
Subscribers – There may be the facility on your public website for visitors to sign-up to receive further information from your company. The subscribers module allows the administrator to select any of the web pages created within the article module to feature within a html mailshot that can be sent out to your subscribers. There are simple formatting buttons that allow for the layout of your mailshot to be changed. Subscribers can be categorised into groups via subscription on your public website or also directly via the content management system. This would allow for mailshots containing diferent information to be sent to different groups. It is also possible to have the html mailshots automatically distributed by the cms on a recurring basis.
Media – This module allows the administrator to upload sound and video media files to the cms and attach them to any web pages within the article module.
Gallery – The gallery module allows the administrator to create a gallery of photographs within the public website. Each gallery created can be attached to a web page created within the article module and will display in the form of thumbnails on the public website. The thumbails link to a further page where the photograph can be viewed at larger dimensions and where required watermarked too. A caption and title can be applied to each photograph within the gallery. It is also possible to specify that a photograph uploaded is a panorama and it will display on the public website with the necessary viewer. Photographs can be uploaded to galleries singularly or multiply by way of a zip file. The gallery module allows the administrator to populate their website with a lot of new page content very easily and effectively.
There are several other modules available that include an internal search engine, product management (can be integrated with paypal, hsbc e-payments, protx and world pay) and room booking sytem (for hotels and guest houses wishing to take online bookings).
We are exceptionally proud of what are clients are achieving on the strength of our content management system (and their public website) and we would like to invite you to attend a demonstration of some of its functions and how it interacts with the public website.
If you would like to arrange a time for an overview and demonstration at our offices in St. Asaph please Contact Us.
