SEO - On-page SEO first then wait!
This week on twitter we have had a number of conversations about SEO.
The SEO industry seems to have developed a pretty poor reputation, and from experiences over the past few years, we can understand why.
We have a few clients who use the so-called "top UK" SEO companies as well as us for their development work. This has proved a real eye opener!
It is from these poor client experiences that we have focussed on furthering the range of SEO services we supply.
We found that our on-page SEO is already to a very high standard and that it was only the off-page link building services that we couldn't cater for.
Three SEO companies we have spoken with on behalf of clients have not asked for ftp details to the clients site, and as such are not considering any on-page seo factors to assit with SERP's.
On page factors refer to your own page content that you are in control of.
Off page factors usually refers entirely to link building, but there are other aspects outisde of link building that can influence your Google rankings such as Google Places, DMOZ & YouTube - that many companies forget.
The best place to start with SEO is to consider all of the on-page factors first.
Once Google has indexed the changes to your site and you have tracked your keyword ranking, you can then decide whether some of the off-page seo factors need to be considered - including link building.
Making changes to a sites source code to affect your on-page SEO first is a lot less expensive than undertaking a 12 month contract with an SEO agency for link building.
If on-page SEO gets the desired results, then why would you consider anything else?
SEO companies could charge from £600 per month minimum for link building services to your website. I suppose this is why they do not consider on-page SEO first andwait to see what results this brings.
If on-page seo doesn't bring you the required rankings then this is the time to consider off-page factors, and possibly link building.
